Open Space Monitoring Programs

The IOSS Open Space Monitoring Program is a national, ongoing program, which has been developed to assist government organisations to quantify critical elements of their open space planning and management activities. Specifically selected Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) are used in a two-fold manner:
  • As a tool to benchmark individual organisational performance against other organisations; and
  • As 'stand alone' indicators for individual organisations to monitor their outputs and progress over time.
80 Government Authorities from New South Wales, Northern Territory, Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania, Victoria, and Western Australia have participated in the program.

PARK MANAGEMENT MONITORING PROGRAM

Park Management performance is monitored through a suite of KPIs developed for each region by participating park managers. A specific theme is also identified for detailed investigation, such as
  • Sportsfield Management
  • Irrigation Management
  • Mowing
  • Playground Management

URBAN TREES MONITORING PROGRAM

The Urban Tree Monitoring Program is currently developing a standard, holistic, industry generated monitoring program.

OPEN SPACE PLANNING MONITORING PROGRAM

Over time, a number of planners have requested that a monitoring program be developed for open space planning to assist local government authorities in gauging the effectiveness of their open space planning activities.
